It has been over half a year since James died. I still miss him and think about him often. He and I were just casual friends, but he was one of the nicest guys, and best guitar players that I knew.Continued condolences to all his family and friends.

Rest in peace cousin Jamey. I will always remember your kindness, warm-hearted soul and ability to be “in the moment” with whomever you talked to - a special gift indeed. You were always so patient to share your computer with your little cuzes when we visited and I appreciate your love of soulful music too!Love you - Greg 🕊️❤️

I met James about ten years ago. We were both part of a collective of local musicians that put on monthly tribute shows. I think the first one we played at together was for the music of David Bowie. An artist he was clearly inspired by. James had a unique approach to music. He played a headless Steinberger guitar into a Roland sound module, rather than straight into the amp like most players use. He was inspired by left of center guitarists like King Crimson's Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp- two players I loved as well. They were guitarists that often used effects to conjure up a variety of sounds that didn't sound like a guitar. Violin sounds, synthesizer sounds, birds and more. James was very much from that school of thought as well. He was about adding color and textures to the music at hand. He wasn't into the cliches that so many players seem to dwell on. He was forging his own road. He was also good at skipping all that and playing some heartfelt blues as well, depending on what the song called for. He was a good slide guitarist too. He was one of a kind and inspired others to be unique and celebrate what made them special as players and people.
I played various shows with him over the years but actually got to know him well once he applied for a job at the music store/school I managed for four years. During that time he grew a lot as a customer service person. There were times (sometimes months) when just the two of us ran that store and he was always there for us. I couldn't thank him enough. This was a very busy store and he always managed to put the customers at ease. He had great patience and empathy for them. He was very dependable and always cheerful and willing to give me sound, thoughtful advice about work and just life in general. When I was down or had doubts he was always there to encourage me. James got along with everyone and was loved and respected by all our staff and teachers. The shadow across our hearts extends to everyone there. We miss him so. I am just thankful for the years we spent there together, being friends. I will remember those forever. Rest in peace, my friend. You will continue to be an inspiration.

From playing in the neighborhood woods in elementary school to introducing me to Adrian Belew and Talking Heads later on, Jamie was a great friend who expanded my horizons. His curiosity, intelligence, kindness, and sweet smile will be missed.

James came to mean a lot to me through music. He was very kind and supportive, even when a gentle butt-kicking was needed. He was also becoming a family friend. I will miss him and his memory will stay with me and my family. Condolences to everyone who loved him.
