James's obituary
James Wade took his final, and quite possibly most dramatic, exit on March 13, 2025, in Lubbock, TX. He always said he’d call to let us know when he kicked the bucket—well, we’re still waiting on that call.
Born on April 20, 1964, in Hardeman County, TX, James spent his life perfecting the fine arts of stubbornness, hoarding, and being a general pain in the butt to those who loved him most. If there was a hard way to do something, James would find it. If there was a good argument to be had, he’d start it. And if there was something worth keeping (or, let’s be honest, not worth keeping), you better believe it was stuffed in his house and truck.
A lifelong trucker, James spent years on the road, collecting stories, miles, and probably a questionable amount of gas station snacks. He was a man of strong opinions, stronger will, and an unwavering commitment to doing things his way—right up to the very end, when he went out in a blaze of glory, just as he always planned.
He was welcomed into the great beyond by his wife, Suzy; his daughter, Holly; and his parents, Steve and Nelle Wade. Those left to sort through the treasures (and occasional junk) he left behind include his children: Chaz Thomas and his wife, Paige; Tyler Wade; Bobby Wade; and Jennifer Parker and her husband, John. His siblings, Sheila Wade and Steven Wade, and his grandchildren, Sam, Sienna, and Skylar, will also carry on his memory. He leaves behind a whole mess of nieces, nephews, and friends who are probably still shaking their heads at the things he said over the years.
Per James’ wishes, there will be no memorial service—mostly because he’d hate for people to make a fuss over him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the GBS/CIDP Foundation International, an organization close to their hearts.
James lived life on his own terms, and he left it the same way. And while we may not have gotten that final phone call, we’re pretty sure he’s somewhere right now, smirking and saying, “I told you so,” with a cold beer in his hand.
