James's obituary

James “Jimmy/Jim” Patrick Montgomery, 54, passed away November 28, 2020, at his home with loved ones by his side. He was born February 13, 1966, in Ionia, Michigan, the son of Bill Montgomery and Mary Montgomery.

Jimmy graduated from Ionia High School, class of 1985. Following graduation, he became a skilled auto mechanic and also enjoyed detailing cars on the side.

Jimmy loved his NASCAR and dedicated every Sunday, during the season, to watch the race. He was a longtime fan of the retired driver, Jeff Gordon #24. He also loved his Detroit Lions; win or lose, they were his jam. Jimmy was a classic car enthusiast and looked forward to attending local car shows. Jimmy also loved his music and often played it loud enough for the neighbors to hear.

Jimmy was beloved for his kind heart and carried a smile wherever he went. He loved his family and was especially proud of his three sisters. Jimmy will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his nephew, Cameron Rhines.

Surviving are his parents, Bill “Billie” Montgomery and Mary Montgomery of Ionia. Three sisters, Kathy (Jim) Olmstead of Ionia, Ann (Brian) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant, and Molly (Aaron) Rhines of Ionia. Many nieces and nephews, Tyler (Grace) Robinson, Katie (Dimitri) Altobar, Ryleigh Robinson, Patrick, Beau, and Bella Schafer, Landen and Jersey Rhines, and great-nephew Anakin Altobar.

Due to the limited amount of people that can attend we are going to have a Celebration of Life at a later date. Jimmy touched so many lives and we want to make sure we honor him at a time where everyone can attend. The event will be posted once we have a date set.

A special thank you to Ionia Community Awareness for your support and prayers this past year. They helped Jimmy be able to have things he would not have had to be more comfortable, please consider making a memorial contribution to Ionia Community Awareness, PO Box 361, Ionia, MI 48846.
