Jim's obituary
James “Jim” Patrick McAuley (67) passed peacefully on August 2, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 1, 1957, in Chicago, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Jim grew up on the northwest side of Chicago and graduated from Lane Tech in 1975. He married his beloved wife, Janet, in 1986, and they raised two sons, Casey and Dexter, in Downers Grove. He had a proud 37-year career at UPS.
He loved golf, rarely missing his Sunday tee time at White Pines; good music, attending countless concerts; spending time with friends, especially up at Elkhart Lake, WI; and cheering for the White Sox, even attending a 2005 World Series game with his son Casey.
Above all else – Jim was a family man. To him, family was everything. He loved road trips with Janet – especially to Door County where she shopped, and he found the local bar. He lived for attending his sons’ football and baseball games and never missed an opportunity to be coaching them from the stands, with his trademark whistle, often standing away from everyone else.
In recent years, nothing meant more to Jim than his role as “Gramps” – spending as much time as he could with grandson, Paxton, and granddaughter, Stevie James. They adored him and loved everything he taught them. His support for his family and friends was unwavering.
Jim is survived by his wife, Janet, sons Casey (Andrea) and Dexter (Christa); grandchildren Paxton and Stevie; and siblings Dawn, Mike, Andy, Danny, and John; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene, and his sister Rosie.
All who knew and loved Jim are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in Jim’s memory.
