James Kenneth English, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud Navy SEAL, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, at the age of 76, in Detroit, Michigan. He was born on January 25, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Lucille English. Jim led a life that was nothing short of extraordinary.
Jim’s bravery and selflessness were evident from his service as a Navy Seal during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he continued to serve his community and country through his pioneering work in the automotive industry. From helping shape modern car seat regulations to serving as the director of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), James made significant contributions that impacted countless lives. In recent years, his groundbreaking work in nanotechnology further cemented his reputation as a visionary leader.
He is survived by his compassionate and loving wife, Grace English. He is the proud father to Kenneth English (Natasha), and stepfather to Stephen Saputo (Olga), Alyssa Shull (Matthew), and Samantha Knuth (Cory). His love also extended to his eight grandchildren: Audrianna, Zealand, Lilia, Aria, Ezra, Maverick, Giulianna, and Mila, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Thomas English (Connie).
Jim’s life was marked by his dedication to his family, his faith in Jesus, and his country. He was a successful business man who loved to help others. His generosity, loyalty, and kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
