Background

Mooseheart is one of the community programs that the Loyal Order of the Moose fraternal and service organization supports. Jim was actively involved and enjoyed his time with the Franconia Moose Lodge. Even prior to joining the Moose, Jim cared deeply for the success of his own children and others. For nearly a decade, Jim was a go-to guy for the Box Tops for Education for his children's elementary school and supported extracurricular activities for local youth through organizations such as the Springfield Youth Club's basketball, Girl Scouts of America, and Boy Scouts of America. Jim valued the education and futures of children greatly, and would be honored to have donations made to support similar missions in his memory. About Mooseheart Child City & School

Mooseheart is a residential childcare facility, located on a 1,000-acre campus 38 miles west of Chicago. The Child City is a home for children and teens in need, from infancy through high school.

Dedicated in July 1913 by the Moose fraternal organization, Mooseheart cares for youth whose families are unable, for a wide variety of reasons, to care for them.

Some have lost one or both parents; others are living in environments that are simply not conducive to healthy growth and development. Whatever the reason, the men and women of the Moose, through unparalleled generosity and volunteerism, furnish the resources necessary to care for children in need. The Moose fraternity provides children with a wholesome home-like environment and the best possible training and education.

A Community Focused on
Helping Children
Children live in one of thirty residences designed like a spacious single-family home. Each residence is home for six to twelve children.

The heart of the program is Family Teachers providing a consistent, systematic method of care, with emphasis on social-skills development skills essential for success in later life.

It is Mooseheart's policy to admit qualified children who have a need. The Admissions Committee considers all applications of children in need.

We invite you to look over our website and if we can be of assistance to you or someone you know, please contact the Admissions Office.

Frequently asked questions

Answered by a team member at Mooseheart Child City & School

  • What is your mission?

It is the mission of Moose Charities to develop the financial resources needed to support the humanitarian efforts of the Moose Fraternity, including the home for children at Mooseheart, the home for seniors at Moosehaven, and those charitable activities that benefit families, communities, and our society.
Moose Charities Inc., is a registered nonprofit, Illinois-based 501 (c)3 charity, charged with the primary goal of providing the necessary resources for the continued support and maintenance of the Mooseheart Child City & School and the Moosehaven retirement community.

  • How are donations used?

Moose Charities receives an annual operating grant from Moose International. This means that donors can specify where they want their dollars to go and confidently know that, whether used to benefit the children or the seniors, no portion of it will be used to offset the operating costs of Moose Charities.
