Jim's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James "Jim" Lewis, who passed away on March 23, 2023, at the age of 70.  Jim was born in April 1952 in Lexington, VA, and was known to those close to him for his friendly, caring, funny, outgoing, and practical nature.  A lifelong resident of Virginia, Jim graduated from Amherst County High School in 1970, after which he began his 40+ year career as a truck driver.  His profession was one that often brought him great fulfillment, as he was able to combine his love for driving and sightseeing while serving in such an important role for many different businesses.  Jim's affinity for the open road was matched by his passion for his hobbies, including cars/trucks, cooking, and gardening.  He enjoyed great food and had a particular interest in great barbeque.  Jim took great pride in cultivating a beautiful garden to produce homegrown food.  He loved the beach as well as the mountains, and enjoyed finding a great spot to view a sunset or the night sky.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, John Howard Lewis; his brother, Danny; and his son, Timothy. Jim is survived by his wife, Susan Lewis; mother, Betty Lewis; sisters, Karen Wilkinson and Darlene Campbell; brothers, Steve and Chris; daughters, Mary Camden (husband, Philip; children, William and Rebekah) and Sasha Hartsfield (husband, Seth; son, David); his late son Timothy's daughters, Ella and Emily; and his son, John Lewis; all of whom will carry on Jim's legacy of love, laughter, and care for others.  He also is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.   Jim's absence will be felt deeply by all those fortunate enough to have known him, and his memory will live on in the lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim's memory to Monroe Church of God (at PO Box 357, Monroe, VA 24574).  He believed strongly in helping others and enjoyed supporting the causes of organizations like Lynchburg's Daily Bread food bank, so supporting such causes would also honor his memory.  A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Monroe Church of God (154 Rothwood Rd, Monroe, VA) on March 27, 2023 @ 6PM.
