James's obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Hopkins, who passed away peacefully in his home on November 22, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born on November 14, 1948, in Ruston, Louisiana, to the late Howard Patrick Hopkins and Lola "Lossy" Hopkins.

James is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Mathews Hopkins, and their three children: Robert Samuel Hopkins, who is married to Connie; Michael C. Hopkins, married to Tawla; and Elizabeth Hopkins, married to Milford Box. He was a proud grandfather to Leigh Collins and Stacie Boyens, and a great-grandfather to Tyler Boyens and his two children.

James was a graduate of Marthaville High School and Louisiana State University (LSU), and served proudly in the U.S. Army. He had a passion for military history and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. James also made yearly contributions to the LSU Agriculture Department, supporting education and future generations.

A nature enthusiast, James cherished hunting arrowheads with his granddaughters, creating lasting memories.  James will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James requested a small service with immediate family only, but we appreciate everyone's love and support and encourage everyone to share their favorite memories on his memorial website.
