James's obituary
James Leroy Hoban, formerly of Sumner WA, sadly passed away in Yuma, Arizona on April 5, 2024. He was 70 years old.
James was a Sumner High School Graduate, Class of 1972. He was active in various music programs, sports, and Chess Club. He enjoyed working on Volkswagens and dabbling in electronics.
As an independent musician, he started his own cover band during his mid-teen years, and continued in the 1970's as a professional bass player and “sound man” with various regional bands, including the traveling band Flash Flood.
In the late 1970's, he discovered a deep faith in Jesus Christ and took up playing bass, keyboards and running sound in various Christian bands and churches. Eventually, he and his second wife Sue lead worship services for a regional ministry as well as various churches in the Pacific Northwest until 2005. He also enjoyed operating a small music studio, in which he recorded other musician's demo's, as well as his own music.
James's other interests included three personal home renovations and other handy-work.
James and his wife Sue retired to Arizona in 2013, after retiring from their Computer Services business in Sumner, WA.
James is survived by his wife Sue Hoban, adult children James and wife Katri, Angelica, Jeremy, Amy and husband Alex Plitkins , Aaron, Justin and wife Shania, his sister Brenda O'Malley of Sacramento, his step-daughter Aubern, 12 grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his father James D. Hoban, mother Christine, and brothers Daniel and David.
