Jim's obituary

James Oran “Jim” Hitchcock was born to Louise Hazel Pischke and Robert Leo Hitchcock on July 31, 1940 in Berlin, Wisconsin, and was the youngest of three sons. Jim was a beloved grandfather, father, husband, and friend during his 82 years of life. Sadly, he passed away on the night of November 6, 2022.

Jim had a long and full life. He was a proud Navy veteran. He served his country for 22 years and lived in many places around the country and the world. He was an avid social entertainer and an amazing friend to all who knew him. When Jim wasn't working as a government contractor, he was actively involved in Stephen Ministries, attending church events and dinners, making his homemade cards, or playing his favorite game, Screwed Up Rummy. He could always be found taking photos of everyone and everything around him. Not a day went by where Jim didn't talk about how much his family and friends meant to him, and how proud he was of his grandchildren.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and his two brothers, Thomas and David Hitchcock. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Ramsey Hitchcock, his two sons: Jim Hitchcock and his wife, Ann Hermann Hitchcock; and Steve Hitchcock and his wife, Kate Fernstrom. He leaves behind his three grandchildren: Stephanie, Maria (and husband, Will), Andrew, and his six grand-dogs. He is also survived by his sisters Pam Ebert, Sherry Catlin, and Pat Johnson, his sisters-in-law, Carol Hitchcock and Billy Utesch, and Ron and Terry Wojdyla, whom he always considered family. He also leaves many other family members and countless friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 10401 Armory Ave, Kensington, MD on November 19, 2022 at 2:00pm. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 1:30pm.
