James's obituary

James Harlow Jordan (Jim, Jimm, Jimmy or Jimmie to some), born in Glendale, California, February 18, 1944, died in San Jose, California, November 8, 2022, at age 78, after a debilitating illness. He is survived & dearly missed by his life partner of 43 years Janet (Jan) M. McEwan, Jordan cousins Andrew (Andy) Jordan (Marcia Morgan), Judy Newton (Fred), Janice Story (Russell), Chris Jahn & other Jordan cousins; Bassett cousin Alyce Schuldt (Theodore J. C., Jr.), & other Bassett cousins; as well as good friends, such as his long-time friend Joe Leben (Connie); & members of Janet’s family, including her sister Mary Ann McEwan. He was predeceased by his parents James Andrew Jordan & Leila Mae (Bassett) Jordan, & his beloved sister Marian Lee Jordan. Jim spent his early years in various southern California communities & two periods in Atlanta, GA, where the family moved in connection with his father’s work at Lockheed. They moved to Sunnyvale, California in 1958, in time for his high school years at Fremont High School. He lived in the Santa Clara Valley from then on, except for the 4 years he’d enlisted for service in the US Marine Corps. He served 2 tours in Vietnam, in motor transport as an auto mechanic, achieving the rank of Sergeant. The VA stepped up to provide excellent care in his final years for his service connected disability. Jim achieved his BA in Business Administration from San Jose State (known then as California State University, San Jose). He worked in banking & as an automotive machinist until he established himself at the phone company (Pacific Bell/AT&T), where he finished his career as a Service Manager assigned to major Silicon Valley companies. He loved cars & driving, dogs & cats, surfing, music, movies, hats of character, fleamarketing, time in nature, taking photos, early mornings, & time with friends & family. He had a good heart & a ready smile. He was a loving companion, who relished a touch of “silliness” in his sense of humor. He is remembered fondly by his coworkers at the phone company, where he prided himself on advocating for excellent customer service to his accounts. He & Jan made their long-time home in Los Gatos, California.

Burial is at Purissima Cemetery, near Half Moon Bay, California, a green burial cemetery, where a beautiful gathering was held for him November 18, 2022, in the golden light of the sun as it was lowering over the Pacific.

Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Second Harvest Food Bank, Humane Society, Next Door Solutions, Women’s Forest Sanctuary.
