James's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. James F. Geer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and esteemed professor at Binghamton University. Dr. Geer, aged 84, peacefully departed this world on July 15 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 3,1940 in Pulaski, NY, James dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the education of others. As a respected professor in the field of mathematics and applied sciences at the Watson School, he inspired countless students from elementary school through postgraduate studies. His passion for teaching and unwavering commitment to his students earned him admiration and respect from all who had the privilege of learning from him.
James was highly respected in his field, a distinction evident in his collaborative work with industry giants such as General Electric, IBM, and NASA, among others. His contributions to applied sciences and mathematics were invaluable, and he played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia and industry, leaving a lasting impact on both spheres.
A man of deep faith, James was dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ, a commitment that was evident in his active involvement in the church and his unwavering support for its members. He spread God's word through his portrayal of Simon Peter, a role he embraced with passion and grace, performing across the world and touching the hearts of many.
James was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Linda, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Jim, Bill, Wendy and Jen, who will carry on his legacy of love, curiosity, and perseverance. He was also a proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and a great-grandfather to three, cherishing every moment spent with his family.
Beyond the classroom, James found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep love for Sandy Pond, where he created countless memories with family and friends. An avid sailor, he took great pride in building his own sailboat during his youth, a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. He was a true tinkerer, always busy with projects around the house and crafting his own "honey-do" lists, which kept him happily engaged.
Dr. Geer's legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the knowledge he imparted. His kindness, wisdom, and infectious enthusiasm for learning will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held on August 9,2025 at Union Center United Methodist Church in Endicott NY at 11 am, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Binghamton University’s Watson School or Billy Graham Evangelistic Association reflecting James's lifelong commitment to education and community service.
May the memory of Dr. James F. Geer be a blessing, and may his spirit continue to inspire those he loved and taught.
