James Gatz (more popularly known as Jay Gatsby), aged 32, was found murdered by George Wilson in the pool of his mansion located in West Egg, New York on October 1st, 1922. James was born in rural North Dakota on May 30th, 1890 to Henry Gatz and the rest of his poor family of farmers. He attempted to gain his education at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, but dropped out after a few weeks due to having to work long and grueling hours as a janitor to pay tuition. James went on to acquire a job working for the millionaire sailor, Dan Cody, where he would change his name to Jay Gatsby. From Dan Cody, he learned how "behave rich", and like a true gentlemen, which made the poor farmer boy James Gatz disappear, and gave birth to Jay Gatsby. In 1917, after Cody's death, Gatsby joined the U.S. infantry to fight in World War One, where during his time as a soldier in Louisville, Kentucky, he would meet the love of his life, Daisy Fay. Unfortunately, at the time Daisy was an upper class girl from a family with an abundance of old money, which describes everything Jay wasn't. That difference in wealth led to Jay not being able to marry Daisy and resulted in her marrying the other new money owning, upperclassman, Tom Buchanan, which broke his heart for years to come. This inspired the ever persistent and hard-working Gatsby to make a fortune selling prohibited alcohol in an attempt to win Daisy's love back after returning from military service. His pursuit/love for Daisy led him to inevitably take the blame for the murder of Myrtle Wilson that she committed, resulting in Myrtle's husband shooting and killing Gatsby before turning the gun on himself. Though Jay Gatsby's death was tragic, his life was one that was undoubtedly spectacular and worthy of books to be written about it. Gatsby's weekly exclusive parties were both extravagant and breathtaking in size and cost, which earned them/him a well-deserved reputation among New York residents far and wide. Although Gatsby made himself well known for being surrounded by thousands at a time and flaunting his riches, he was mostly an introvert who kept his real social circle very small, with only one or two friends who actually cared about him and no communication with his family. Jay Gatsby was the perfect embodiment of the American Dream, to say the least, who still managed to stay humble. He was charming, ambitious, hard-working, loving, caring, polite, and noted to have "one of those rare smiles that you may come across four or five times in life". Although he is gone, he will be deeply missed and never forgotten to be everyone's good "old sport". A funeral service is scheduled at 2:00 pm this Friday in Jay's mansion at 235 Middle Neck Road in Sands Point (West Egg), New York. His burial will be at 5:00 pm in West Egg Cemetery.
