Jim's obituary
Conveying the life of an exceptional man in just a few words is a challenging undertaking.
James Anthony Gamez, known as Jim to his family and friends, passed away on September 3, 2023, at the age of 56 in Land O Lakes, FL. Jim was born on January 10, 1967, in Torrance, CA, to Mary Catherine Mann and Samuel Anthony Gamez. Jim was a man of faith, and his devotion to God was an integral part of his life.
Jim was a loving husband of 33 years to his wife Kris, whom he adoringly referred to as his princess and frequently brought home "just because" flowers to her. Together, they raised two incredible sons, Sam and Mike. Family was of utmost importance to Jim, and he cherished spending time with them. Whether it was embarking on crazy adventures devised by his wife, enjoying family outings to amusement parks, fishing trips with loved ones and friends, or fun and games in the pool, Jim's heart was happiest when surrounded by his family.
In addition to spending time with his family, Jim had a passion for cooking for others and often delighted his loved ones with his culinary creations. Through charitable work, Jim discovered a sense of purpose in aiding families facing hardships and life challenges. Jim's kind and generous nature extended to his love for animals, as he had a soft spot for rescue dogs. He shared a profound love for music with his sons, cherishing moments when he could engage in guitar jam sessions with his son Sam and explore new music genres with his son Mike, fostering enduring connections through their shared musical journeys.
Jim's love for fishing was unparalleled. He was happiest when he had a rod and reel in his hands, whether from land or sea. Jim and Kris shared a passion for fishing, which led them to establish a charter fishing business. They enjoyed taking families out on the water, sharing their love for fishing, and creating lasting memories.
Professionally, Jim dedicated 13 years of his career to Shriners Hospitals for Children, where he served as a Supply Chain Team Lead Contracting and Project Management. His commitment and expertise made a significant impact on the organization.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Kris, sons Sam and Mike, mother Anita Gamez, siblings Christine, Robin, Stephanie, and Jason, as well as his extended family and friends. Jim is reunited with his father, Sam, in the heavens above, where they will continue to watch over us. His legacy of faith, love, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
In celebrating his life, we find solace in the countless memorable stories he left behind, each brimming with endless smiles and lots of laughter. Jim's journey on earth may have reached its final port, but his spirit lives on in the form of a splash—a fisherman's tale filled with enduring joy and cherished memories. With each recollection of his warm smile and kind heart, we keep Jim close in our hearts, knowing that one day, our paths will cross again. Until that joyful reunion, let us honor his legacy by casting kindness into the world, just as Jim cast his line into the waters he loved so dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on October 7th, with time and location to be determined. In honor of Jim's memory, please consider making an online contribution to Shriners Hospitals for Children at http://lovetotherescue.org.
