James (Jim)'s obituary

James (Jim) Forder, husband, father, friend, fisherman, disappointed Bengals fan, and the proud owner of Goshen’s largest collection of Harley Davidson t-shirts passed away on November 26, 2018. He was 78 years old. Jim loved motorcycles, guns, and fishing for catfish in his pond and at the local lakes. He could often be found early in the morning, sitting on the deck, drinking coffee, watching the hummingbirds at their feeders with his dog, Blue.

He is survived by his wife and partner of 43 years, Harriet Forder (nee Elkins) and his children, Dwain (Candace nee Barger), Debi Sams (Michael), Sharma Montgomery (Christopher), Penny Norman (Brian), Andrew, and Joshua (Dawn Brownlee).

Jim took great joy in his grandchildren. He is survived by 11 grandsons – Eddie (Glenda) Haas, Dylan (Abby) Newport, Sean Newport, DJ Forder, Brian Montgomery, Brendan Montgomery, Jacob Norman, Ethan Norman, Cole Forder, Ezra Forder and Remi Forder.

Anyone who knew Jim, knew that he knew everything. His unending fountain of knowledge will surely be missed. He was a skilled leather smith, known all over the country, from Laconia, NH to Daytona, FL, all the way out to Sturgis, SD for making custom saddlebags and tool bags for Harley Davidson motorcycles. He knew how to fix just about anything mechanical, he fancied himself a cyber security expert and built his own computer (which none of us will ever be able to access again). He even knew how to turn a wrapping paper tube into the most awesome toy, called a Rooty Toot, which the boys will be playing in his honor this Christmas.

He was far from perfect but he was a dedicated husband and father, he was a good friend and could always be counted on to be there to lend a hand. He did the best he could with what he had, which is all we can really hope for in life. We are grateful that he was a part of our lives.
