Jimmy's obituary
James “Jimmy” Wayne Fikes
December 4, 1949 – December 12, 2025
James “Jimmy” Wayne Fikes, beloved son of the late Stanley Fikes and the late Mae Lacy Lee Fikes, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 76. He passed peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL), a rare blood cancer. While he faced a number of health challenges over time, CNL was the primary cause of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Fikes and Mae Lacy Lee Fikes, and his first wife, Felicidad Rancile Fikes, who passed away in 2000.
Jimmy was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served his country honorably, attaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, including time as a Marine Corps recruiter. His service reflected a lifelong commitment to duty and discipline, values that stayed with him long after his time in uniform.
Known for his sharp sense of humor, a rebellious and ornery nature, and a stubborn independence that was well known to those close to him, Jimmy was a fighter through and through. He was deeply devoted to his family and often went out of his way to help those he felt needed support, using whatever means were available to him. At times, that help came in the form of advice or encouragement, sometimes a meal, and sometimes simply a place to shelter for the night. He gave what he could, when he could.
He loved playing cards and shooting pool, particularly when a friendly wager was involved. To the unwary, he might have described himself as an occasional card player, though his skill with a deck and a pool cue told another story.
Jimmy leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, resilience, and connection. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Darling Fikes; his sons, Jimmy Michael Fikes and James Wayne Fikes II; his daughter, Sheila Lopez; his grandchildren, Jacob Fikes, Alex Fikes, Julenna Lopez, Taden Lopez, and Liam Lopez; his brother, Stanley Freeman Fikes; and his sisters, Annie Fikes White and Kathie Fikes Copes.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Plummerville Cemetery
