James's obituary
As you all know, James Stewart (AKA, "Stewart", "Mildewy Stewy", or "The Great and All Powerful Dada"), left us on September 23, 2025 after a battle with brain cancer. Stewart was born on June 13, 1959, and lived a life filled with many lifetimes worth of adventures. He was a weirdo of immeasurable depth whose booming laugh was a trademark of his larger-than-life demeanor. He left his mark on everyone who knew him, from his friends at the Tai Chi school, to his fellow organizers, massage therapists, and lifelong friends. He never let anyone doubt his love for them or his values of community. He installed his family with a love for reading, cooking, and adventuring in the great outdoors, as well as a patience for philosophizing. Above everything, his legacy is one of community, generosity, and adventure.
Stewart will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His spirit, his joy, and his zest for life continue to be an inspiration for all of us. We hope you will be able to join us for a celebration of his life on June 6, 2026, from 2-7 pm in Champaign. As we gather to remember him, we hope to honor his life and the extraordinary impact he had on us all.
