James Edward O'Neal of Warren, Michigan, was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Willie B. O'Neal (Blissett) and Jessie James O'Neal, who both preceded him in death. He was a loving husband to Renee Marie O'Neal (Holmes). Father to Shaun Lamont Smith, who preceded him in death, Marc (Claire Kouassi) Jones, and stepdaughters Karen Bellware and Kristina Burgess. He was a loving and supportive big brother to Kevin O’Neal who he was always there for and loved dearly. He used to babysit for his big brother Ronnie O'Neal (Mary) and his first wife Bernadette. His oldest brother Ivory (Bo) Bishop preceded him in death and he had one sister Ernistine O’Neal. Uncle to Annette (Treasie) Solomon, Nicole O’Neal, Mignon (Clardin) Claybourne, Brandy and Maya O'Neal, Kevin Cummings, and Kayla Travis. Grandfather to Danny and Sarah Burgess, Florene, Halimah, and Niemah Hills, Aaminh, Hasan, and Sulayman Elhajras, Lavenus and Omari Williams, Jeremiah Thompson, Shaquille and Dequan Smith, and Essence Malcolm. Great Uncle to many. James also had a large extended family and many friends who he loved spending time with. He could light up any room he was in with his humorous and happy personality. He will be greatly missed by all!
