Jim always made me laugh. I knew him when I worked at the Arizona Republic. He was one you could feel comfortable around. It's nice but not at all surprising to see he had so many that loved him.

Fly with the angels Jim. You've earned it.

Jim Flaherty was a giant among men.

In the late 1970s he was a circulation manager for the Phoenix Gazette managing two young delivery boys, my sons. As a journalism major and former newspaper publisher I was constantly impressed with how well Jim ran his crew of "Little Merchants." All of his boys had to fold, deliver, collect the money and sell renewals. On time, and with a smile.

Jim's complete professionalism so impressed me that I wrote a long note about him  to Gene Pulliam, the Gazette's owner and publisher. Today, Jim's Little Merchants are adults with careers of their own that began with their excellent teacher Jim Flaherty.

Momma Jo & Papa Jim,

Our sincere condolences to you Jo…Kevin, Chris & Tara and the entire Flaherty, extended family.

Jim is a beautiful soul with a heart filled with love. Juan and I are so honored and blessed to have known such a wonderful, kind person.

His infectious laughter, wit and sense of style all undeniable characteristics he showed. And I remember he’d always say, “You’re good people, Tree” after every visit.

Sending Hugs, Love & Light. Praying for peace & comfort during this difficult time.

Love. Teresa & Juan

Rest in peace Mr. Flaherty. You will be missed. Thanks for letting me come over and eat dinner at your house all those times.
