Patrick's obituary

James Patrick Duffel passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Pat was born in Pocatello Idaho on June 8, 1962. He was the second child to Ardean Nellie Duffel and James Saxby Duffel. The Duffel family moved to Twin Falls shortly after Pat’s birth.

Throughout Pat’s younger years he was given the opportunity to learn a wide range of activities such as piano, dance, woodworking, boy scouts, and sports. While some of the activities may not have been his first choice, music in all forms stuck with him his entire life. Pat’s parents raised him with a sense of strong manners and etiquette. He used to tell stories of how he was trained to dine at a table formally while growing up.

As a child, Pat’s mother Ardean ensured that he was brought up in the church and had a firm foundation in God. Pat was involved with church and worship services for most of his life. He played on the worship teams of multiple churches throughout his life.

After graduating from high school Pat moved to Boise to attend Boise Bible College, and it was at the Bible College where he met Elizabeth James. Pat and Elizabeth were married, and Pat became a father for the first time to Nicholas Duffel. A few years later the couple had their second child Khira Duffel. Both of Pat’s children were also given a foundation in Jesus Christ, work ethic, manners, morals, and encouraged in music and other hobbies. Family dinners sometimes started with a prayer and then ended with a few rounds of blackjack or five card draw for a pretzel buy in. Car rides were also a great time to learn how to harmonize with other singers and the radio. In 1997 Pat became a widower and took on the responsibility of being a single parent after Eilzabeth passed away.

In 1999 Pat married Kristie Jaramillo (Cahoon). Their marriage created one very large “Modern American Family” as Pat used to say. The family that was created by Pat and Kristie’s marriage was full of love and saw many changes and growth over the years. Pat became a grandpa many times over and took joy in that role. A new generation to share his love of music, God and laughter. Although the marriage ended many years later the bond that was created with all members of the family will last forever.

Through all stages of life Pat was known for being genuinely fun. He loved to make people laugh, and he could pick up almost any instrument and play a tune. Pat could be the lead vocalist, or he could sing back up. In some ways this is a great way to explain how he carried himself in life as well. Taking the lead when necessary but not too proud to allow someone else to shine. Pat was there to support others when he could, and he was able to help so many people. He was also well-known for his fondness of obituaries and was always the one who wrote them in the family. It’s unfortunate that he couldn’t be here to give his guidance with his own obituary.

Pat is survived by his children Nick Duffel (Beth) and Khira Duffel along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, family and friends. Pat was cremated under the direction of Bowman Funeral Home in Boise Idaho. A celebration of life service will be held at Hill City Church, in Boise on June 29, 2024, at 10:00am and is open to the public. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Brick House Recovery (https://brickhouserecovery.co…) Special thanks to Hill City Church, Foothills Christian Church, and all other families and friends who have helped the family during this time.
