Thank you for being the person you are Dr. Doty. You have changed many people's lives, and you will continue to do so through the wisdom you have left us with. May your soul rest in peace with the lord that resides in all of us.

I remember Jim in our days serving in the Tulane Medical School Owl Club together. He had an incredible life and gave his best to make things better than he found them. Well done!

Jim was a great friend to me. He always made time for me and encouraged me to shoot for the stars. I am so grateful to him for his sage wisdom and advice, his open heart, his willingness to see the good in everyone. The world feels quieter and less lustrous with his passing. There are many times when I wonder "what would Jim think?" and write him an email in my head, only to realize I can't send it to him. He taught me to try to think and live big, to not let myself be limited by the poverty of my own imagination, to connect with others and to find and celebrate the value of everyone. I was stunned when I found out he died. There is so much more time I wish I could have had with him, yet I know this is a feeling shared by so many. I offer those of us who find ourselves in the same boat the succor that we are not alone, that we have been touched by an angel of compassion. We are better for having known him and to have been accepted and welcomed into the world of this big-hearted man, not afraid to dream, not afraid to live, not afraid to love and to be loved. Thank you, Jim!

There was a large community meeting hosted by Jim and others about 15 years ago after a number of high school suicides in Palo Alto. Jim was so gracious, caring and supportive. I met him and he appreciated that I had a book called CARE You Have the Power and did service work for high school youth. I went to one of his CARE events at Stanford and although i barely knew him he yelled out “Hey Ivan how are things in East Palo Alto.” I’m a veteran and was so saddened to visit and see what he was going through in recovery at the VA Hospital. Jim was truly an American world Icon.

Best way to get a pure JOY fix is with a big hug by Jim! :)

I received Mind Magic yesterday and was just curious how old Dr. Doty was, not knowing he had passed, and googled it. I'm stunned and very saddened to learn of this tremendous loss to the world. My condolences to his family and all those who loved him.

My condolences to James's family. I first met James when he was involved in starting and running a novel cancer treatment company. I was an executive at a competing company. As fate would have it we both changed companies which then allowed us to collaborate on technology designed to find cancers early (using pioneering AI imaging) and treating disease early. Jim balanced this endeavor with many other engagements. He was unceasingly present and mindful in all encounters. He was uniquely capable of balancing entrepreneurial pursuits with his neuro-surgical responsibilities. The fact that he simultaneously raised a loving family and nurtured his profound spiritual engagements and passion-driven leadership was well beyond that of mere mortals. It was, indeed, a “super-power.” He never lost sight of his “intentions” and he was an able to manifest realities on multiples fronts simply because he felt he “had to and knew he could.” Jim became a good friend and although he’s left us way too soon he would likely measure life not by the number of breaths one takes, but by the number of moments life takes one’s breath away. Thank you for let us all into your Magic Shop, Jim. We’ll never leave you. Your buddy, Mike

having only just registered Dr Doty’s passing…I feel like i’ve lost a dear friend and mentor! I listened to his interview on the Mel Robbins podcast . Dr Doty’s words and his sentiment..have imprinted on me forever…I have listened now to the same interview at least 6 times…and know I will listen many, many more. His teaching, his compassion…honesty…humility…has helped me to bring about so much necessary, but authentic change in me… it will continue to do so..please accept my belated condolences. This troubled earth has lost the most special, beautiful human and guide…I feel certain his words, wisdom and compassion will continue to help shift and recalibrate others towards greater compassion…in these very troubling times. Thank you Dr Doty…with love to all your family and all of your people - Helen - Somerset, UK xxx
