James's obituary

James “Jimmy” Clark Allison, 58, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, in Longmont, Colorado, after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on May 20, 1967, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, James carried the name of his uncle, the last surviving sibling of his father’s generation.

Brilliant, introspective, and deeply loved, James built a life defined by curiosity and creativity.  He worked more than a decade for Seagate Technology and later opened Left Hand Yoga Studio in Longmont. He explored many passions—writing, voice acting, soap-making, gardening, collecting records—and shared his cancer journey with honesty in his Substack, Bad Cancer: A Cynic’s Guide to Surviving Cancer.

James met the love of his life, Brian Cunningham, in 2002 at a seminar and had their first date at Minneapolis Pride in 2003. James and Brian were married in a beautiful, loving ceremony on November 1, 2025.

James was preceded in death by his beloved dogs Abby, Andy and Tyra; father Richard Allison; maternal grandparents Ruth and Donald Palmer; and paternal grandparents Everett and Jessie Allison.

James is survived by his husband Brian; his daughter Valerie (Travis); granddaughter Khaleesi; mother Linda; sister Jill; and a wide, loving family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, from 5–9 PM in the River Room, 222 SE 2nd Street, Minneapolis.

"We appreciate your love, support, and understanding during this difficult time. To honor the family's privacy and ensure that this moment remains intimate and personal, we kindly ask that this obituary and any related gathering information NOT be posted, shared, or discussed on social media, and we deeply appreciate your understanding and cooperation in honoring this request."
