Jim's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Dwight Cashion, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on May 2, 2024, at the age of 80. Jim is survived by his wife Michaelynn, children Brad (Brandyn), Susan and David (Robin) Cashion, grandchildren Kyle, Cole and Brooklyn Cashion and step-children Rick (grandchildren Nick and Kristina Giron), Brad Giron and his sister Cheryl Mueller.
Jim was born on May 27, 1943, in Hollywood, CA, to Dwight and Alva Cashion. He grew up in a loving home alongside his younger sister Cherie. After graduating from North Hollywood High School, Jim pursued his passion for numbers and finance, earning a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Southern California. He later obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification, setting the foundation for a successful career in the family accounting practice alongside his father Dwight and uncle, Larry Cashion and John Swisher.
Jim’s career spanned over five decades, during which he made significant contributions to the accounting profession. As a respected CPA, he served as a trusted advisor to countless individuals and businesses, always approaching his work with integrity and dedication. Jim was a prominent figure in the business community.
He became a member of the Glendale College Foundation in 1984 and served as its president in 1988-1990. In addition, he served as chair of two City of Glendale commissions and had served on numerous non-profit boards of directors, including Glendale Memorial Hospital, Glendale Memorial Health Foundation, Verdugo Hills Visiting Nurses Association, Glendale Healthy Kids, Glendale Community Foundation, Glendale Kiwanis, Glendale Citizens for Law and Order, Glendale Police Officers Memorial Steering Committee, Glendale Police Foundation, Glendale Symphony Association, Glendale Chamber of Commerce and Glendale Partners.
Jim was honored as the 1991 Glendale Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year.
His leadership and expertise were invaluable, earning him the admiration and respect of his peers and colleagues within the business community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was a man of many talents and interests. He married the love of his life, Michaelynn in 1979 and built a beautiful life together in their homes in Glendale and Rancho Mirage, CA. Their life was filled with family traditions, celebrations, global travel to 17 countries, and a robust social life with friends, community events and philanthropy.
He was an avid reader, a crossword puzzle enthusiast, had a love for USC football, and enjoyed playing tennis up until the time of his passing. He also enjoyed music and went to many Johnnie Mathis and Frank Sinatra concerts with Michaelynn. They also enjoyed the LA Philharmonic and the Glendale Symphony.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and excellence. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife Michaelynn, his children and grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
Jim's wisdom, kindness, and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
