James Harvey Bulthuis, age 91, passed away listening to “How Great Thou Art” on November 17, 2023.
Jim was born on March 9, 1932, the son of Henry and Angeline Bulthuis. He grew up in a small farming community in Roseland, MN. After graduating from Willmar High School, he joined the Air Force in December of 1950 and served until June of 1953. He was stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador during the Korean war.
He returned to his home town and married Dorothy Jane Harms on June 21, 1958. They moved to their first apartment in South Minneapolis and soon after bought their home on Bryant Ave where they raised their three children Deanna, Curt and Doug. Jim was a charter member of Riverside Reformed Church where he was actively involved as a deacon, attending church campouts and playing on the softball team and golf league.
Jim and Dorothy were very active in the lives of the children and later grandchildren. They were active with the neighborhood park board and loved watching their kids sporting activities. They bought a cabin in Aitkin, MN to enjoy more family time. In 2005, they sold their home on Bryant and moved to the Valley View Coop in Eden Prairie where they met a whole new community of friends. Jim was an avid sports fan and loved watching both college and professional MN team sports teams.
Jim worked at Land O’ Lakes for 37 years and retired in 1993. He volunteered at the VA for 23 years serving over 5,000 hours.
We believe he is in heaven reunited with his wife Dorothy, his parents Henry and Angeline, and his siblings Emma, Lorraine and Lloyd.
He is survived by three Children; Deanna (Mike), Curt (Jennifer), Doug (Melanie) and his Grandchildren; Melissa (Rich), Brad (Karen), Abby and Jonathan and his Great Grandchildren; Presley, Shelby and Marley.
He will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling on Monday, December 11 at 11:30am (Enter funeral gate (not main gate)and go to assembly area 2 road to your left and line up behind the cars to follow to gathering area). Following, there will be a celebration of life from 1-2:30pm at Valley View located at 10785 Valley View Road in Eden Prairie. All are welcome to attend.
