Personal note from James’s friend Leslie

My friend James was born in Alaska 1963 to a military family. Many years later, it was James’s military service that happened to lead us to friendship. I will never forget the first day we met. I was living in a small apartment in Virginia Beach, not far from the naval base where he was stationed.
My husband introduced James as a co-worker, which, at that time, meant they both worked in the same squadron.
My husband invited James to dinner the day we met. James rode up on a bike, knocked on our door, and in came this homely-looking guy wearing “BC” glasses and a tattered, green, military jacket. If you’re unfamiliar with what “BC” glasses are, they are eyeglasses issued by the military that, are so ugly on the wearer, the chances of landing a date are impossible. In other words, if you wear these glasses, it’s ultimately like “Birth Control” because you sure won’t get lucky with the ladies. At least, that’s what I was told.
