James's obituary
He later settled in Orange County, California, where he spent the remainder of his adult life and was a devoted member of Santa Ana Seventh Day Adventist Church in Stanton (Santa Ana SDA Church).
JR had a passion for fashion and took pride in his appearance. He loved jewelry, and had a special fondness for watches. Among his many interests, his Cadillac held a special place in his heart. He was a ladies man who believed in true love. He had a way of leaving a mark on everyone he encountered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, King and Mary; great uncles, Fred, Robert, and Willie Sims; great great aunt, Callie Mae Sims; Willie, Daisy, and Caline Baker; and brother, Elbert Bates.
He is survived by his brother, Frank; uncle, David; aunt, JoAnn; cousin, Olia; and his children, Nova, James Jr., Derrex, Kiera, Janina, Isiah, Patrice and one daughter (name unknown). He also leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will remember him fondly.
