James's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Evans, esteemed father, ”Gramps”, brother, friend, avid storyteller, and lover of life, who passed away on February 24th, 2024. James was born on January 14th, 1947, and throughout his 77 years, he touched many lives with his wit, wisdom, and love. He had a heart of gold and a deep level of life and experience.

James will be dearly missed by his surviving daughters, Gwynndolyn Evans, Jamie Evans, and Joy Steuer, Wendy Nelson and son Jason Menzimer, as well as many grandchildren & great grandchildren, brother David, sister Judy, sister-in-law Sally, many extended family members and many more friends scattered across the states. He was a constant source of wisdom, warmth and light in their lives, and his memory will continue to inspire and uplift.

An intelligent man, James loved the pursuit of knowledge and personal growth. He spent countless hours lost in books, absorbed in thought-provoking works of literature, philosophy and art. His love for art and music was equally profound, providing a testament to his deep appreciation for the world's beauty and everything in it.

James was also blessed with a gifted hand for woodworking and carpentry. His creations were a testament to his patience and commitment to craft. They were objects of beauty that reflected his understanding of the intricate balance between form and function.

He had a great love for the outdoors, especially his fondness for the lake. He found solace in nature's embrace, often spending hours lakeside or in the desert, lost in its serene beauty.

James was known for his dry sense of humor and for being an engaging storyteller and conversationalist. His tales, often filled with pearls of wisdom, or a long joke were keenly listened to by those privileged to hear him, especially his children and grandchildren. At every family function you could always find “Gramps” with a smiling grandchild by his side, fully engaged in the moment enjoying him, his presence and his stories. His resilient spirit saw him through many of life’s challenges, and he remains a beacon of strength for his loved ones.
