Shadowling's obituary

How well could you possibly know someone that you’ve never met face to face? For most people, maybe you wouldn’t be too close. When it comes to Jake, it didn’t matter if you knew him from school, from work, or from somewhere else in the world via his online presence, Jake wore his heart on his sleeve and welcomed you into his circle with open arms.
Jake (known on Twitch by the username Shadowling) loved to game and build relationships, and content creation came naturally to him. For over ten years, Jake streamed games like Call of Duty, Mario Maker 2, Dungeons & Dragons, and Among Us. He was also a co-founder of the Our 800 Pound Podcast, where him and his two co-hosts Andrew and Ian talked about games, sports, and anything in-between they found interesting or noteworthy.
Jake found the majority of his following playing Mario Maker 2. He was a member of the Super Mario Maker Showciety team on Twitch and adored by the troll level community. Troll levels in Mario Maker are built to pit the user against themself, making them look silly as they progress through a level. Jake was the perfect player for these types of levels, as there isn’t anyone better than him at willingly being the butt of a joke and taking it in stride. Jake wanted everyone around him to have a good time, even if it meant being at his own expense.
Jake took care of you. If he had something and you didn’t, he would make you whole. His self-sacrifice was one of his most endearing qualities. He wanted nothing more than for you to laugh or smile and he would laugh right there alongside you. His laugh was infectious, and he always knew the right thing to say.
Jake’s passing comes as a shock to his entire online community. Taken from us far too soon, there were so many more games to play, more memories to be had, more heartfelt discussions to engage in. He will forever be remembered in our hearts, and we wish for healing for his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
