Jaime's obituary

October 22, 2023 Jaime L. Hernandez, 89, of Redlands, CA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Early that Sunday morning, the clouds lifted and the Lord Jesus Christ ushered him home to heaven.

The prayers, facetime, phone calls, letters, cards, and visits Jaime received during the final weeks of his life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to him especially his surprise visit from Neriada Torres (niece) and Angel Rivera (grandnephew).

Jaime was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart, a wonderful sense of humor and the most amazing smile. He was generous, strong, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: machinist, industrial engineer, barber, DIY contractor - he could fix or build anything. Even at 89 years of age he always had a project in hand.

He enjoyed telling stories, playing jokes, helping people, spending time playing dominoes, hiking and playing pool with his friend AJ, weight lifting and spending time with his loving family.

For most of his life, Jaime was a man of simple pleasures (ice cream, sherbet, cookies and cupcakes ., any thing sweet), his faith in the Lord and his deep love for his family. This was his prescription for living life. He was not a man of material wealth but what he lacked there he was abundantly wealthy in faith, heart and love for his family and those around him.

Jaime’s spiritual journey was fraught, and therefore hard-won. Early in his life, he made a profession of faith and gave his life to Christ. Though life sometimes got in the way and he later parted ways with organized religion, he never left behind his belief in the Lord - he was a principled man of integrity always in search of the truth. In his final years and moments, he deeply contemplated his faith, and he came full circle in his belief and commitment to Christ.

Life took him to many places, cities, countries but he loved Redlands the best. He would always say where you gonna go where you don't have hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, etc.

He was a proud Korean War Veteran and a proud American. He loved his home and he loved his country.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them - and if you knew him, you knew it. He cared so deeply for the people around him and he made an impact on many lives. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him and those he was leaving behind.

Jaime was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Maria Corona Hernandez, father Ramon Hernandez, mother Isabela Ramos, sisters Carmen Ana Ramos Hernandez, Lydia and Hilda and brother in law Juan Cortez, niece Maritza Rivera.

He is survived by six children, their spouses, six grandchildren, and one great grandson and one great granddaughter. They include daughters Norma Rodriguez, Mildred Hernandez, Carmen Hernandez, Hilda Larson and sons Jimmy Hernandez and Johnny Hernandez, and grandsons Kyle Rodriguez, Connor Rodriguez, Johnny Trejo, and Zachary Larson and granddaughter Hailey Hernandez and great grandson Jonathan Trejo and great granddaughter Sofia Trejo, and son in laws Carlos Rodriguez and Baird Larson. He leaves behind his eldest brother Manolo Hernandez.

He had so many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews - too many to name or count but to his beloved extended family in New York, Puerto Rico, Connecticut and New Jersey - you are fondly remembered and acknowledged.

Jaime was a strong fighter, but he is now sailing on a journey to heavenly shores that we cannot see. We know that he is free from pain and is peacefully in the presence and comfort of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dad/Welo, you will be forever missed but we know we will be together again for our hope is in Jesus Christ. You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. Well done, good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Until we meet again, rest easy, enjoy heaven and all it has to offer.

Jaime will be buried alongside his loving wife at Riverside National Cemetery on Thursday November 16, 2023 at 1 pm.

In typical Jaime fashion, there are no formal services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance.

In lieu of flowers consider planting a tree or plant something in his memory or better yet order yourself a wonderful dessert adding a big scoop of ice cream or sherbet as that will bring a smile to your heart and sweetness to your memories.
