My name is Jennifer Cloud and my daughter is Megan whom also studied abroad in Malta. Megan said they met on their first day there. Megan also told me she and Jada spoke every day. She was absolutely crushed and heartbroken when she heard the news.
I want to offer my family’s deepest condolences to yours. Jada was the most amazing young lady, beautiful inside and out and so full of life. I’m grateful she and Megan met so we were able to get to know her these last two years. Megan only had her for two years but they had formed a lifetime of memories. I am tremendously sorry for what your family is going through but wanted to tell you how I loved Jada. You raised an amazing daughter who carried a golden soul within her.❤️

To Jada’s family. I received the very sad news about Jada late last night. Julie, I am one of your father’s VMI roommates and, as you know so very well, at VMI we are Brother Rats. But I considered Jeff as simply my brother. We are a family and I have lost another family member. I do take comfort and I pray all of you do as well, that Jada is now in the loving arms of her grandparents. My heart goes out to all of you,
Dave Price

To Jada's family. I am Steve Talley, the class agent for the Class of 1970 at VMI. Jeff Guild, Jada's grandfather, was my Brother Rat. I'm sure you know all about VMI Brother Rats, probably quite enough. Brother Rat Carl Strock informed me today of Jada's tragic passing. I am so sorry for you and your family. When I read Jada's obituary today, news reports of the tragic accident, and consider how you and others remember her, I come away with a picture of a vital, happy, and dedicated young woman who loved her work, friends, and family. She reminds me of her grandfather. I surmise that they were very much alike. I remember Jeff well. His infectious laugh and captivating smile made me and his Brother Rats happy. When I look at a picture of Jada I found online, with that big, wide, bright smile, and the other pictures of her on this page, I see a young, twenty-year-old Jeff at VMI. Some people live short lives but have big impacts on all of us. Jeff and Jada are two of those. Tonight, I am going to reach out to my class with this sad news and encourage them to add condolences to you and memories of Jeff. Again, I offer my deepest sympathy to Jada's friends and family.

Like most parents, I think, Julie and I struggled with what to name the baby girl we were expecting. We already had a Julie, a Jeff, and a John. All J's of course, which believe it or not was unintentional. So early on, we consciously avoided the J chapter of the baby naming books. But eventually we worried our daughter might feel left out of the J club! Eventually we settled on Jada (this was actually before we'd ever heard of the famous actress). We gave her the middle name Mairin, Gaelic for Mary, after her great-grandmother on her mom's side, who was in my opinion the nearest embodiment of a saint on this earth.
Unfortunately, I could never remember the correct spelling for Mairin. Jada learned this fact only a couple of years ago when I was filling out some official document that required her full name. I think I spelled it Maren. She quickly caught my mistake, and feigned outrage. (she of course took the opportunity to make me squirm.) “Dad, how the hell do you not know how to spell my name?!” Yikes. I protested that the spelling of a foreign name was open to interpretation, but she wasn't having it.She held that one over my head for a long time. Of course I loved the razzing, and the eyerolls that came along with it whenever she raised the topic.

Such a beautiful and lovely young woman. Jada was a pleasure to be around. All my love to her and her family!

I did not know Jada, but only learned of her through the news. As a father of a Merchant Marine, who's calling is to be at sea, this brings great sadness. Please know for every parent of fisherman, merchant marine, observer that shares a passion of the ocean, we share in your pain.

Wishing you comfort and peace in this time of unimaginable sorrow. May you find comfort in the love and memories you shared with Jada. Your daughter was a true light and will be missed deeply. Love, Carole, Joyce and Jayne

Dear Jeff, Stacey, and family — we have been so profoundly saddened to hear of your tragic loss. It stings knowing was just beginning her life’s work and taken while doing something she loved. I am sure she was an incredibly brave and unique woman and know her life story will inspire others to follow in her footsteps. Keeping you all in our thoughts ❤️ Devin Hartnett & family
