Jacqui's obituary

Jacqueline "Jacqui" R. (Otto) Steinberg, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 3, 2021. She was born on December 21, 1942 in Hartford, CT. She lived in Irvington, NY for the last eight years.

Jacqui was raised by her beloved adoptive parents, James and Dorothy Otto in Colebrook, CT. Later in life, she reconnected with her birth mother Victoria Schuetz and her extended family. She is survived by her former husband Alan Steinberg of Potsdam, NY; her daughter Ariana (Steinberg) King and husband Daniel; and her three beloved grandchildren, Annabel, Benji, and Alex, all of Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Jacqui loved nature and the outdoors, and she spent much of her free time gardening, cooking, and going on nature walks. Prior to retirement, Jacqui spent many years as an art teacher, and she was an accomplished artisan silversmith. Most of all, she loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Her favorite places to spend a day were in the woods or on the many rocky Connecticut beaches along the Long Island Sound, where she would walk and find shells to bring home to her garden and her grandchildren.

Jacqui attended Hartford College for Women, and then went out west to live in Washington State and Idaho.  Jacqui returned east and lived in Northern New York and the Adirondack Mountains, to which she kept a strong connection. She earned two masters degrees; a Master of Fine Arts in Jewelry, and a Master of Arts in Education.

Jacqui loved dogs and had three over the years: Yeats, a black Labrador Retriever; Luna, a Dalmation; and Snowheart, a Samoyed.

There will be a private family burial, with memorials at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and Colebrook Center Cemetery. A memorial celebration of Jacqui's life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to Trustees of Colt Bequest Inc., which supports Armsmear Senior Housing in Hartford, CT, where Jacqui was a resident for many years, or H.O.R.S.E of Connecticut, an organization Jacqui volunteered at which was dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and neglected horses and ponies.  Charitable contributions to these causes can be made through her online memorial site at everloved.com.
