Jacqueline's obituary

April 6, 1966 – September 20, 2025

Jacqueline Thompson, 59, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her three daughters in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. She was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and grew up in a close, loving family. Though always independent, Jacqueline remained deeply connected to her parents and siblings, helping whenever needed and cherishing every moment spent together.

She attended an all-girls Catholic school, St. Teresa of Lisieux, where her quick wit and lively sense of humor often left teachers and classmates laughing and occasionally shaking their heads. Once, when a teacher asked how she knew the answer to a question, Jacqueline responded, “It’s in the Bible. Duh.” The teacher, ruler in hand, quickly reminded her of the classroom rules. Even so, Jacqueline’s cleverness and sparkle never dimmed.

From a very young age, Jacqueline developed a deep love of reading. She first learned to read when she was asked to read to the kindergartners at school, and from that moment, books became her lifelong passion. Her home was filled with stories that fueled her imagination, curiosity, and joy for learning.

At age nine, Jacqueline and her family moved to Ecuador, where she attended Instituto Pérez Pallares and completed elementary school. She excelled academically, was disciplined, and loved participating in school activities, including playing Jesus Christ in a school production of The Last Supper. During high school at Colegio María Angélica Hidrobo, she continued to shine, focusing on biology and chemistry, and creating choreography for school events as part of the cheer team. She made lasting friendships and was loved by her teachers, classmates, and staff alike.

As an older sister, Jacqueline was nurturing and supportive, always looking out for her brother and sisters. Her father worked in the Amazon, while her mother filled their home with warmth, love, and delicious cooking. These early years shaped Jacqueline into the kind, generous, and joy-filled woman everyone who knew her adored.

In 1986, Jacqueline moved to the United States to begin a new chapter. That same year, she married Kory Thompson, and together they built a beautiful family, raising three daughters.

Jacqueline was a devoted mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She is survived by her three daughters—Ashley, Brittany, and Courtney; her father, Alfredo; her brother, Francis; her sisters, Rocio and Carol; her nephews Jason and Anthony, her niece Ari; and her 14 cherished grandchildren, who adored their “grandma”. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, with whom she shared a tender and eternal bond.

Jacqueline lived life with a light that drew others in. She was adventurous and curious, with a passion for travel that led her to a fulfilling career as a flight attendant based in Boston. The world was her home, but her heart always belonged to her family. She loved visiting them, sharing stories, laughter, and hugs that lifted everyone’s spirits.

Jacqueline found beauty in simple pleasures like the calm of the beach, the grace of sea turtles, the warmth of the sun, and the laughter of those around her. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Her kindness was effortless and genuine, and she approached every person with empathy and respect. She was the kind of person who would drop everything to help someone in need, offer a comforting word, or find a reason to make someone smile.

She encouraged others to speak goodness into their lives and to live in the present, a motto she embodied every single day. Her laughter could brighten even the darkest moments, and her cleverness and unshakable optimism lifted everyone around her. Jacqueline’s ability to see the good in people and in life itself was one of her greatest gifts, and that spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on November 21, 2025, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a life full of love, joy, laughter, and light.

In addition to this gathering, a second Celebration of Life will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, lovingly organized by Carol, Jacqueline’s youngest sister, and Maria, her dearest friend. The date and details will be announced soon, and all who knew and loved Jacqueline will be welcome to join.

A third celebration will take place in Colombia, where Ashley, Brittany, and Courtney will reunite with family to honor their Mama in the place that shaped so much of her heart and spirit. Surrounded by loved ones, they will celebrate her life, her roots, and the joy she brought to every soul she touched.

Jacqueline’s legacy lives on in the kindness, love, and curiosity she shared, a reminder that life is brighter when you embrace it with a smile, a love of learning, and a little laughter.
