Jackie's obituary
Jackie graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education. She later moved to California, where she briefly worked and lived in Monrovia. Jackie later moved to La Mirada, where she lived until shortly before her passing. Jackie worked at California High School in Whittier, California, for many years in the Physical Education department and later the Social Science Department. She very successfully coached many girls' softball teams, and her drill team had a featured role in the parade scene of the movie "Hello Dolly," featuring Barbara Streisand.
Jackie was proud of all of her students that performed well. The feeling was reciprocated by many students who have stayed her friend until the present. Her students appreciated her impactful spirit and uncompromising passion.
Jackie graduated with her Master's degree in Education from California State University Long Beach in 1960.
Jackie was most known for the state-required civics class she taught at Cal High.
Jackie was very interested in politics, both local and federal, and made several trips to Washington DC. Jackie remained active in many local political organizations and most notably worked to support the Equal Rights Amendment.
Jackie sponsored several foreign exchange students over the years and traveled abroad to visit many of them and met new friends. Jackie had friends all over the globe.
Jackie's energy was limitless and her interests boundless. She remained in contact with friends all over the United States and the world.
Jackie leaves behind nephews Paul and Mark Fleming and their families in Virginia and Minnesota. They will always have memories of their Aunt Jackie and her indomitable spirit.
