I had enormous respect for Jack. He was a true salt-of-the-earth gentleman—consistently respectful, kind, and generous in spirit. He genuinely enjoyed people, was perpetually upbeat, and a joy to be around.
Jack and I served as Physician-in-Chief in different regions—he in Stockton and I in Santa Rosa—and spent many hours together at Board, OMG, and off-site meetings. Our friendship really took shape during the Kaiser Advanced Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina, where I came to know him not just as a leader, but as a person.
After we both retired, we made a point of meeting periodically for lunch at the Firehouse in Sacramento. I always looked forward to those times and to hearing what Jack had been up to. I will miss those conversations, and I will miss Jack.
I am grateful to have had him as a friend.

My prayers go to Jack’s family. I met Jack in 1988 when I interviewed with him for a pediatric position in the 3 years old Kaiser Stockton Clinic. He was so kind to a brand new doctor and took me to lunch, driving me by appropriately safe apartment complexes for a young lady like myself! He offered me a job which I took. I learned so much about being a pediatrician from Dr Jack, from his bedside manner to his medical techniques and tips, and his corny jokes. He saw potential in me and offered me opportunities for growth, ultimately leading to me becoming site lead in Pediatrics, Stockton for 10 years. I will never forget Jack and Jackie and what they gave to the Stockton Community. I am grateful to have known them. Jennifer Gray Rieber, MD

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. Jack was a special friend and classmate of my husband's. Looking forward to that resurrection day!

Dear Gilliland Family, my sincere condolences. Losing someone you love is never easy, and it’s even harder when their life feels cut short.
The Bible gives us real comfort at John 11:11, Jesus compares death to a peaceful sleep, and Jehovah promises to wake our loved ones again. Acts 24:15 reminds us of that beautiful hope of the resurrection. May this hope give you comfort and strength as you look forward to seeing Jack again.
