Background
Reading was a passion of our Dad's and also one of the greatest memories of him. Not only was he an avid reader himself but he loved to read to us as children and eventually his grandchildren as well. Books were brought to life by his different voices and a genuine love for the worlds and characters in each and every one of the stories he brought to life.
After he retired, Barry took this passion and shared it with young children in the Rantoul City Schools. He would sit and read with them in groups, take time to mentor them one on one and had a real interest in their education and the development of this life long skill of reading. He had an active hand in their early school education and helped them to develop their own love for books and stories.
Many times at community functions in Rantoul he would see some of these children and they would run up to him and excitedly want to talk to "Mr. Little". He was able to take something he loved and use that to make an impact on the community around him and the lives he came in contact with.
Our hope is that through the Barry Little Literacy Fund we would be able to raise funds and carry on this legacy of teaching children to read and providing the necessary resources to do so. He so loved these kids and made sure to spend significant time with them to set them on the right course for their future. Funds would be collected and then given to the Rantoul City Schools for the purpose of literacy programs and purchasing books for underprivileged children who are learning to read. Contribute
