James's obituary

J. Scott Blackwood (65)

James Scott Blackwood was born June 15, 1958 at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, California to James Frederic and Rosella Daniels Blackwood; and peacefully passed away surrounded by thoughts, well-wishes and prayers from family, in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Scott loved everything outdoors. During his adolescent years growing up on a ranch in Napa, you would find him from sunrise to (most times past) sunset outside exploring, fishing the creeks and ponds, riding horses, and playing pranks on friends, family, and neighbors. He loved fast cars, nature, animals, rock-and-roll, and everything else a teenage boy could be into. He attended Napa High School where he met the love of his life Debra (Debbie) Paulsen from rival school, Vintage High School. After graduating, Scott attended trade school in Arizona and furthered his career in the family automotive business Blackhawk Body Shop. Scott and Debbie were married on April 28, 1979 at Calvary Baptist Church surrounded by many family and friends. Scott and Debbie had four children and raised the family on the same Napa ranch where Scott grew up. Scott always loved a simple way of life and always dreamed of being a rancher and moving his family to Oklahoma, where his father was originally from before moving to California. Once settled in Stratford, Oklahoma Scott built a life for his family and continued to live out his dream of having a farm with cattle and horses. Over the years many other family members moved to Oklahoma, including his parents, sister, and in-laws. His later years were filled with love for his numerous grandkids and reliving his youth through them. He would always fill their heads with his wild story-telling and tall tales he would make up on a whim. Everyone that knew him, knew of his pranks and storytelling. Scott and Debbie always planned on living out their retirement years traveling the country visiting their kids, grandkids, and traveling with friends. Scott departed this earth too soon and will greatly be missed by those that loved and knew him.

He is survived by his wife Debra, and his three sons Garrett Blackwood and wife Tara of Boston MA, Kevin Blackwood and wife Devan of Shawnee OK, Kyle Blackwood and wife Emma of Philadelphia PA, and one daughter Lisa Hector and husband Dakota of Ada OK. Scott is also survived by two sisters Daina Halford and husband Bill of Pauls Valley OK, Cecelia (Cecy) Hurst and husband Vince of Santa Rosa, CA, and one brother Brent Blackwood and wife Lisa of Napa, CA. All of his wonderful grandchildren who will greatly miss him: Olivia (9), Hailey (9), Elliott (6), Jeremy (2), Everly (1), Kate (<1), and Emberlyn (<1).

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosella Blackwood.

Private funeral services for immediate family will be held in Ada, OK. In lieu of flowers; well-wishes, stories, and memories of Scott will greatly be welcomed by the family.
