Ivan's obituary
With deep sorrow and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Ivan Shankar, who departed this life on February 19, 2026, in Manhasset, New York. Ivan was a devoted son, cherished brother, loving husband, proud father, and adoring grandfather whose life was defined by dedication to family, resilience, and quiet strength.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Ivan carried the values of his homeland with him throughout his life. In 1984, he immigrated to the United States, settling in Queens, New York, where he built his home, raised his family, and remained until his passing. His journey was one of determination and hope, creating opportunities for those he loved while honoring his roots and heritage.
Ivan is lovingly remembered by his mother, Saty Brijmohan, whose guidance and love shaped the man he became. He was a devoted husband to Bissoondai Shankar, sharing a lifelong bond grounded in loyalty, partnership, and enduring love. As a father, he leaves behind his beloved daughter, Shoba Islam, who was a constant source of pride and joy in his life.
His greatest happiness came in his role as grandfather to Aamir Islam, Aman Islam, and Adil Islam, whose laughter and accomplishments filled his heart with pride. He treasured every moment spent with them and leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and strength that will continue through their lives.
Ivan was a dear brother to Frankie, Chandra, Balram, Phulmattie, Indrani, Elizabeth, Sunita, and Anjanie Brijmohan, and the late Harry and Surojanie, who preceded him in death. He shared with his siblings a lifetime of memories, unwavering support, and deep familial bonds that will forever remain in the hearts of those who remain.
