Itabora is a gift that lightened the weight of our world, through his tenacity, brilliance, love. My heart goes out to his beloved family and to all who learned from him & loved him. There are no words to make this loss easier.

I started training capoeira very young at the age of 5, and lived in a remote area in north Cali. In 2016, my teacher and I went to my very first Vandiando where I would first meet Mestre Itabora. I went to every single Vandiando after that until the last one in 2019 before I moved to Florida. Being one of the only kids that would play with adults, Vandiando quickly became a highlight of my journey every year because of how welcoming and supportive everyone was to me, to have a space where you left your belt and school’s name at the door, and entered as yourself. When we heard there was going to be a Vandiando the summer of 2023, me and my family couldn’t pass up the opportunity to come visit and join in on celebrating Mestre Itabora. Thank you Mestre, for being so kind, and for being everything a Mestre should be, and more. You will be missed greatly, and forever remembered in our hearts 🤟

~Love, Estrela💫

Mestre Itabora's energy, knowledge, passion and emotion will live on in all of us, just as he would want in the roda of Capoeira.
I am eternally grateful for the lessons you shared, and the example you gave in the way you lived your life.  Thank you.
