Notice: memorial/wake has been changed from January 13 to Saturday, January 6, 2024, 1 to 4 p.m.
Irvin Henry Sentz, III, of Montclair, Va., passed away on November 14, 2023 after a long cancer illness. Beloved husband of Judith K. Sentz; father of Scott Sentz (deceased) and Todd Sentz (Libby); half-brother of Doug Martin; nephew of Neil Emrich (deceased); Pop Pop to Sabina Sentz, (granddaughter and love of his life); close cousin to Richard Sentz (Ruth) of Annapolis, Md., Dr. Thomas Sentz (Ann) of Warrenton, Va., Margo Emrich Trexler (Bob) of Frederick, Md., Carol Emrich (Tom) of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Charles Emrich (deceased).
His father, Irvin Sentz, Jr. (deceased pilot WWII), mother, Jane Martin (model and Erie, Penn., TV weather girl), and stepfather, Bill Martin, all preceded him in death.
At Randolph Macon College, under the leadership of beloved Coach Paul Webb, Irv was an excellent three-point shooter (before it became three points), and his prowess on the court was a testament to his dedication, skill and love of the sport. In 2002, he was inducted into the RMC Sports Hall of Fame (https://rmcathletics.com/hono…) and was regularly featured in the Richmond Times-Dispatch sports column. He kept basketball in his life by coaching in the community.
In his professional career, he served as national sales manager at Ricoh Corp., where he led the successful secure fax division. His leadership and unwavering work ethic left an indelible mark on colleagues and clients alike.
At home, he reveled in his role as the Harry-homeowner fix-it man (relying mostly on FlexSeal and Liquid Nails) and kept a very neat desk! He enjoyed the humor of John Belushi, the music of the Stones, and just loved the Lone Ranger; but it was his family who was at the center of his universe and his love for them knew no bounds. In fact, we're quite sure he's embracing his son Scott right now. Hi-yo, Silver, away!
The family will hold a small service and celebration of life gathering at home on Saturday, January 6, 2024, 1 to 4 p.m. Please RSVP: jksentz@comcast.net. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Inova Schar Cancer Institute or Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation.
