Iris's obituary
With heavy hearts we mourn the loss of Iris Smith, a woman of remarkable strength and resilience, who passed away on October 26, 2025 due to illness. Born on May 17, 1954 in Biloxi, MS, Iris spent most of her life in Trenton, NJ and her latter years as a resident of Virginia Beach, VA. Known for her lively humor and unwavering bravery, Iris will be remembered with much honor and respect.
Iris is survived by her daughters, Kaneka Turner of Newport News, VA and Kieara Walden of Virginia Beach, VA, and beloved grandchildren, Nadia Walden and Jordan Hamilton, who will remember their "Grammy" with love. She is also survived by her son-in-law Nate Morgan of Newport News, VA, aunt Loretta Scoggins of Georgia, sisters Marie Dunn and Joy Love of Georgia, and brother Dale Mitchell of New Jersey, as well as nieces and nephews.
Iris was predeceased by her mother, Audrie Harper, and father, Cornelius Mitchell, and brothers Carl, Alan, Dwayne, William, and Anthony Mitchell.
One of Iris's most profound lessons to her loved ones was to keep fighting and never give up hope, a mantra she lived by until her last moment. Her resilience, bravery, fortitude, and humor will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her, a testament to a life well lived and a woman well loved.
