We lost the incredible Irina "Ira" Mechikow on December 11, 2024. Born on August 17, 1973, in Konotop, Ukraine, Ira's life was marked by her joyous spirit, adventurous soul, and profound commitment to her medical career , most recently at UMass Memorial Medical Center and UMass Chan Medical School. She enriched the lives of everyone around her, not only through her professional work but also through her vibrant love of life—traveling the world, hosting gatherings, and sharing moments with friends, family, and the animals she adored.
Ira was a devoted, loving mother to Jenny, 29, and Andrew, 17, instilling in them her strength and zest for life.
In memory of Ira, we have established the Irina Mechikow Memorial Fund to support the causes she would hold dear: Andrew’s college education, research and education at UMass Medical School, and animal welfare through the ASPCA. This fund celebrates her legacy by continuing her work and spreading the joy she brought into the world.
Please join us in this tribute to a remarkable woman whose spirit and love continue to inspire. Your support in any form means a lot to us.
