Irene Aurora Castillo Uy passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, following a sudden and unexpected medical issue. Her life and love left a lasting mark on all who knew her.

Irene was a woman whose presence brought joy wherever she went. She was truly the life of the party and had a warmth that drew people in. Irene loved celebrations of all kinds and deeply believed in gathering people together to share joy, connection, and meaningful moments. She was known for her funny expressions and the way she could make others smile simply by being herself. Whether dancing, singing, or enjoying the company of others, Irene had a natural way of making people feel welcome and at ease.

Her Catholic faith was central to her life and guided the way she loved and served others. Irene lived her faith through kindness, generosity, and genuine care for those around her. She found great comfort in prayer and staying connected with her church and faith communities.

Family meant everything to Irene. She was a devoted and loving mother to her four children and an adoring grandmother to her 13 grandchildren and her great-grandchild, who were the light of her life. She could always be heard cheering loudly from the sidelines, offering encouragement and unwavering support.

Irene cherished family gatherings, milestones, and celebrations, and she was always the one making sure everyone paused to take a picture, capturing memories that reflected the joy and love she had for those closest to her. She also enjoyed sharing food with those she loved and was especially known for bringing her homemade pancit to gatherings, a tradition many will always remember.

Irene had a remarkable ability to stay connected with people across time and distance, constantly checking in with friends and family around the world. Her friendships spanned decades and continents, and wherever she went, Irene made friends easily and sincerely.

She held a deep love for her home in the Philippines, which remained close to her heart throughout her life. That love for her roots and culture was reflected in her strong ties to the Filipino and Filipino American communities.

Professionally, Irene dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse. She completed her nursing education in the Philippines and went on to a long and meaningful career in the United States, including many years as a psychiatric nurse. She retired in 2020 and was deeply respected by colleagues for her compassion, steadiness, and calm reassurance.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Juan and Juanita Castillo. She was the youngest of four children and is survived by her loving siblings, Dr. Annabella (Froilan) Juat, Cynthia (Solomon) Barrera, and Roberto (Vivian) Castillo.

She is also survived by her husband, Wilfredo Uy; her four children, Imma (David) Hoglin, Wilbert (Kimberly) Uy, Willand Uy, and Isabel (Ronald) Maksymowski; her grandchildren, Gabriella, Jacob, Immari, Iyanna, Leah, Elijah, Maya, Blake, Emmett, Lhuiz, Lorenz, Amelia, and Sofie; her great-grandchild, Leith; and her little dog, Dakota.

Those who knew Irene will remember her as compassionate, loving, and deeply connected to others. Her faith was lived quietly and sincerely, and her love was given freely.

While her family grieves her loss deeply, they find comfort in knowing that Irene is watching over them from heaven, continuing to dance, sing, and cheer them on with the same joy, love, and encouragement she shared throughout her life.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Molnar Funeral Homes, Nixon Chapel, 2544 Biddle Avenue, Wyandotte, Michigan.

A Holy Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., led by her sister Cynthia, followed by family and friends sharing memories and remembrances beginning at 7:00 p.m.

A final visitation will take place on Thursday, January 8, at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cyprian Catholic Church, 13249 Pennsylvania Road, Riverview, Michigan.
