Irene's obituary
Irene (Haskell) Martin- Baldasaro
Irene Martin-Bladasaro was born Irene Haskell in Cambridge Massachusetts in August of 1949. She passed away in June of 2025 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was 1 of 5 siblings. She was predeceased by 3 of her siblings (Kenneth Haskell, Frank Haskell, Nancy Haskell). Irene grew up in Cambridge Ma. At the early age of 17, Irene left Cambridge for life in the big city. She journeyed to New York, where she joined a band and played the electric violin. Irene’s adventures in New York and while traveling were truly epic. In her 20s Irene took a job working for the federal government providing emergency disaster relief and embarked on what would ultimately turn into a lifelong pursuit of helping others during their darkest hours of need. Her travels eventually took her to Idaho, where she met Terry Martin the father of her daughter Rachael. After their brief marriage and subsequent divorce in the early 1980s. Irene moved back to Massachusetts with her daughter Rachael. Through mutual friends Irene met Robert Baldasaro known as “Bob” to his friends. The two met and dated for awhile. Always quick to make a joke and kid around “Bob quickly won over Irene and Rachael. He soon stepped into the role of Father for Rachael and husband for Irene. Their adventures took them to Winter Springs Florida, where they raised and raced greyhounds, enjoyed Jai Alai matches and spent many a family day at Disney World, much to Irene’s young daughter Rachael’s delight. A tragic house fire forced them to move from Florida back to Massachusetts for a short time. Never afraid of travel and adventure, the family soon found themselves in Las Vegas Nevada where they resided for a year before returning to their home state of Massachusetts. In 1990 Irene gave birth to her second child Jordan Baldasaro. Always the eternal care giver, and driven by the desire to help others, shortly after Jordans birth Irene began her nursing education. Irene attended nursing school where she graduated in the top of her class. Irene focused her nursing education on Psychiatry ,specifically Geriatric Psychiatry. Upon graduation she took a at Job at Clinton Hospital, where she dedicated the next 3 decades to caring for and looking out for each and every one of her patients like they were a member of her own family. Because in Irene’s world ,they were all her family. Irene's loyalty to those she considered friends and family was something to behold. Her strong will and spirit, desire to lift up and help others was always apparent to those who found themselves around her. Irene leaves behind one brother Robert Haskel, Two children, Rachael Martin and Jordan Baldasaro, she also leaves 2 grandchildren with a 3rd on the way. Irene will be sorely missed not only by her immediate family but by her “found family” as well. While she only bore 2 biological children there were many over the years to call her mom. Irene always prided herself with staying up on the trends and on top of new music. Her taste in music was eclectic to say the least. If her ”Jam” came on the radio you know she was about to sing it whether it was Toby Kieth, Van Morrison, Nellie or Eminem’s Slim Shady. She will be missed by all those who knew her. Always and Forever.
Drawing from Irene’s desire to help and care for all those around her, Irene’s family has asked that in her honor in lieu of flowers or cards that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. In the hopes that other families may be spared the pain ours is experiencing with this unexpected loss.
