Ingrid's obituary

Ingrid R. (Busse) Bosenberg, 90, of Kenmore, WA passed away on March 24, 2020. Ingrid was born in Germany on November 29, 1929. She enjoyed an idyllic childhood growing up on a farm, which fostered a lifelong interest in plants and animals. At age 15, as WWII came to a close, she and her family were forced to flee their beloved home to western Germany where they lived as refugees for several years. At age 22, she courageously emigrated to the US to earn money to bring her family overseas. She quickly found factory work in New Jersey and less than two years later, her family was able to resettle in Toronto, Canada. This chaotic period in her life left a deep impression on her, which she often recounted in a compelling oral history to all she met.

In 1958, Ingrid met and married Wolfram Bosenberg. They spent 61 wonderful years together and raised three children in their Beekman Road home in NJ. Ingrid was the center of her family, AND selflessly provided love and support to all in her circle. She quite naturally became the “switchboard operator” of the family grapevine, a role she enjoyed throughout her life. In 1996, Ingrid and Wolfram moved to Kenmore, WA, where they spent their remaining years.

Ingrid was passionate about the areas that interested her. Despite being forced to end her own schooling at age 15, she was a fierce advocate of education and demonstrated remarkable intellectual curiosity on a wide range of topics. She recognized most song birds by sight and by sound. Her farm roots were evident in the beautiful flower gardens she created in every place she lived. She had great interest in history and read countless tomes on wide ranging topics. She rejoiced in nature, walking several miles every day “just to get some fresh air.” However, her keenest interest was in people. She created a wide network of family and friends, and her recall of people’s names, their histories and, yes, birthdates (and birth weights!) was unmatched.

Ingrid is survived by her three children Carola Bosenberg of Kirkland, WA and her husband Reggie Ware; Walter Bosenberg of Simsbury, CT and his wife Debbie Thibodeau; Marcus Bosenberg of Guilford, CT and his wife Kellie Bosenberg; her seven grandchildren Olivia, Lucas, Alexandria, Zoe, Emma, Adam and Jessica; and three siblings Gisela Lepper, Marianne Osso, and Erhard Busse. Her devoted husband, Wolfram, predeceased her by 9 days. Somehow it seems fitting that after 61 wonderful years of marriage, the two of them went out together. A planned memorial service will be private. To express condolences or share a memory, please reach out to one of the Bosenberg children or write comments on the website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Audubon Society.
