Imants's obituary

Imants "Ims" Millers, 88, of Somersworth, NH, passed away on April 9,2022 of natural causes.

Imants was born on January 29, 1934 to Kristaps and Marta in Latvia. In 1944, his family was forced out of Latvia into a German DP camp where they lived for several years. After losing his mother in an air raid, the family immigrated to the United States in 1950 through a work sponsorship program. After residing in Connecticut, Imants met Grace Goldbeck at UConn and married his loving bride on June 7, 1958. He obtained his doctorate in forestry and was an entomologist for the U.S. Forest Service until retirement.

Imants moved his family to Somersworth in 1976. Imants first passion was soccer and second volleyball. In 1978 he brought soccer into the community and coached both for many years. He served the city of Somersworth on the Conservation Commission and the Site Review Technical Committee and was also involved in the historical review of Willand Pond.

Imants and Grace had seven children, Aija Edite, Janis Imants, Lolita CeCelia, Mara Vija, Raymond Pauls, Aina Louise and Marta Daina. Imants was the epitome of father, grandfather and great-grandfather, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Imants was our fisherman, camper, Santa, handyman, gardener, pool man, BBQ King and the great debater. He loved Latvia and sharing his Latvian culture with all. He would deliver his time, energy and financial service to any in need. Ims' door was always opened. Imants stated, "Life is about kindness and love". Imants was so passionate of soccer, he could often be found watching a game. Anyone who knew Ims knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.

Imants was predeceased by his son Janis, sister Edith Millers Nagy, father Kristaps and mother Marta. He is survived by his children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ims will be a notable loss to the community and all that knew him. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, send donations to Somersworth Conservation Commission. There will be a memorial/celebration of life on April 30, 2022 at Hope Community Church 197 6th St. Dover, NH
