June Darwin (in the U.K.) with whom Ilene, Peggy, and I lived for a semester in 1967 away from the University of Michigan told me of Ileen's passing. I remember so strongly her love for Jeff. It was in 1972 or 1973 when Jeff was in med school in Cincinnati and, I believe, they had their first boy, that I visited her at their campus apartment. She told me about her Cincinnati Public School teaching, and I, later, also became a teacher there. I remember her ENERGY...what I caring person. She gave a lot. MaryAnn Beranek
Dear Klein Family,

Many hearts reach out to you the whole family with great love and sincere appreciation for our most dear Mrs. Klein. Mrs. Ileen, as we called her lately, has touched the hearts of many us as a dedicated teacher, wonderful friend and hard working co-worker at Mason CLC. After her retirement, I have had the great blessing and privilege to have Mrs. Ileen as a volunteer tutor once a week working with our fourth grade students. Every week she amazed me with her dedicated spirit, high energy and perseverance. She loved teaching and loved our students. She worked diligently to help each student to learn a little bit more every time that she came. Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Maggie and I along with many other staff members and students have missed her this year and will continue miss her wonderful presence greatly. We are grateful for the wonderful memories and the precious time that we spent together.
Mrs. Ileen' great service and dedication to our students and to the teaching profession will remain forever in our hearts.
"We thank you and love you Mrs. Ileen Klein ...forever!"
I’m sorry if this is long winded Ileen was my sons tutor... . His mother and I were desperately seeking someone for help with him that we knew he needed and was well beyond our capabilities Turns pig it waaaay beyond many’s. We live in the Revere school district and inevitably contacted them after he chewed up about 7 “tutors” They sent Ileen out and we had a lengthy meeting. She was retired at the time but graciously took on my sons very complicated educational experience and predicament ... Anthony was born with a very rare and complicated congenital heart defect and endured 5 open heart surgeries and suffered several strokes among a multitude of other complications..... Ileen came out of retirement to take on his tutorial task. When his dozens of doctors including cardiologists and neurologists told her he’d never come out of his “state “. (and as I fight through tears) Ileen said to them. “Well we’ll just see about that”. Two to three years
later she had Anthony reading books. Writing sentences... using educational games on computers. Her tenacity and refusal to give up on him was one of the most important things In Anthony’s mental development One day she band to tutor him and she had a cask
Box that SHE bought at an office store. She had it filled with quarters nickels dimes penny’s. Ones. Fives tens twenty’s. !!!!! She sat on the floor with him. (Once again , fighting back tears ). They played store and she taught him hot to count money and make change. She made him get things he had in the house and asked him to put a price on it. Then he had to pay for it........ this might be elementary to some but it took her months to keep his attention. Ileen came to us and said she needed to use the “reward system” and we told her he likes to do this thing called repeating. Well her amazing husband Dr Jeffery Klein would come to the House on his day off and do the “repeating” with Anthony every week !!!! I could go
On and on. And once again I fight years st this loss Ileen and Jeffery. The Sarvis family loves you and I’m
So happy and proud I could share this tribute to both of you during this time.
Sadly but also happily and with love and respect.
