In Loving Memory of Dr. Ikpeme Ben Ebong
February 19, 1950- February 1, 2025
Ikpeme Ben Ebong was a proud member of the Biafra Air Force from 1967 until January 1970. He graduated from Ngwa High School in Aba, Nigeria, in 1970.
Before emigrating to the United States, Ben worked for Lever Brothers in Aba while also playing professional soccer with the Aba Giant Killers, where he was affectionately known as "Man Mountain."
He pursued higher education in the United States, attending the University of Nebraska system, where he earned his undergraduate degree, a master's in Urban Studies, and a Ph.D. in Community and Urban Development in 1983.
Ben dedicated his career to economic and community development. He worked in the Omaha Mayor’s Office of Economic Development before becoming the Executive Director of Greater Omaha Community Action (GOCA).
He also shared his knowledge and passion for education as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska Omaha and Bellevue University for many years.
He later went back to Nigeria and served as the Special Assistant to the Cross River State Governor on Diaspora Matters before retiring back to the United States.
Ben is survived by his four childrenNne Ebong-Williams, Benjamin Ebong, Victor Ebong, and Francis Ebong—and their mother, Regina Chinweze. He also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren.
Additionally, he is survived by his five siblings: Ekamma Ebong, Mmaeyen Nkebem, Mmaete Offiong Awatt, Boyce Ebong, and Eteobong Ebong.
