Ida's obituary

Ida “Lisa” Becker was born in Brooklyn, New York, on the 22nd of December 1935. Her parents were Ceri Dagmarr Persson, and Sten Harold Johnson, who both preceded her in death. Lisa had one sister, Joan Lillian Aubert, of New York, who also preceded Lisa in death. Lisa married Lt Colonel Robert C. Becker, and lived in Alabama and the Panama Canal Zone during their marriage.

Lisa and Robert had one daughter, Joan “Abbe” Elizabeth Vining (Becker), who passed away in February of 2010, one day before the passing of her father, Lt. Colonel Robert Becker. Joan had a son, Christopher Vining, of Nashville, TN who survives both Lisa and Joan herself.

Robert had 5 children from a previous marriage at the time of his marriage to Lisa, Pam Gelein, of Madison Wisconsin, David Becker, of Madison Wisconsin (Deceased), Cindy Stabler of Madison Wisconsin (Deceased), Helen Becker, of Seal Beach California, and Carol Whitney of Madison Wisconsin (Deceased).

Lisa leaves behind a grandchild Christopher Vining of Nashville, TN, and a number of step grandchildren, Sara Angevine, of Long Beach, CA, Ronda Stabler, of Los Angeles, CA, Michael Gelein, of Hudson WI, and Marit Gelein, of Webster, WI (Deceased).

Personal Facts

Lisa’s parents were Swedish citizens who immigrated to the United States in the 1920’s. Lisa was proud of her Swedish heritage, and made numerous trips to visit relatives there throughout her life. Lisa was at one point conversationally fluent in Swedish. Her grandson Christopher Vining carries on contact with the Swedish side of his family.

Lisa was a lover of books, and amassed a large library throughout her life. Her love of reading was broad and deep over many subjects, ranging from science fiction to academic psychological publications.

Lisa completed a PhD at Florida Institute of Technology, in Melbourne, FL graduating as a forensic psychologist. She later found employment at Bridgewater State Mental Hospital in Bridgewater, MA where she worked with the courts to determine soundness of mind for defendants in criminal cases. Her life was dedicated to bolstering a fair and impartial judicial system, and to making her community a safer place.

Many remember Lisa for her ‘flower-child’ days, in which she the love and free-spiritedness of the 1960’s. She enjoyed having guests over and listening to the Rock and Roll of the day including Eric Clapton, the Doors, the Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd. Lisa was a fan of Andrea Bocelli in her later years, and loved to enjoy an ice cream in her apartment in Fall River while listening to him on her favorite silver boom box. Lisa was a lover of animals and donated frequently to the SPCA global animal rescue.

Above all, Lisa will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, and a fiercely intelligent and independent woman. She was known for her toughness and examining nature, balanced by a sweet and caring side.
