I loved you more than anything. The time I spent with you was heaven. I wish I didn't have to leave. It wasn't my choice.

It's so cold here.

My love to Gretel and the family.

James Kreis - this is not a place to place blame or shame, they are dealing with enough without your insensitive comments. Before words pass through your lips let them satisfy three tests: is this kind? is this true? is this necessary?
I will choose to remember Ian as he was, before Dado left and he went downhill. He was a good man, generous and humble. Watching him unravel over the last few weeks has been troubling. His facebook posts yesterday were very bizarre and disturbing. I wish he would have answered my messages and calls. I sincerely regret not going to his house myself, maybe this could have been avoided. I am ashamed I didn't do anything when I had the chance and all of you should be ashamed as well!

What I will remember most was his devotion to Dadonda. I have never seen a man more in love. Rest in peace, Ian. Prayers to Dadonda, may you be well, wherever you are.
I met Ian in 2007 in South Africa. We hopped a lorry together and got on smashingly. We ended up traveling together for months. He was smart as a whip and honest with his friends. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. But he was also very good at telling a scam artist and protected us from snakes more than once. Funny thing -- when you're traveling its the people who re more risky than the wildlife! My favourite memory is going through Nairobi, it was so hot, we met these children who were mesmerized by Ian's eyes for some reason, they kept giggling and hiding behind their hands. We had plans and were in a rush, but he dropped everything to sit and talk with these kids for a half hour. It made their day, they were so happy. We missed our plans, but it was worth it. Ian you were a good man. I will think of you often.
You were the best first mate I could have asked for. I will never forget you and you will never be replaced.
RIP buddy, I will never forget you and all the good times we shared. 2004 was our year!!!

I will pray to god for Ian's soul. He is gone too young. Much love to you Gretel I cannot imagine what you are going through. Please let us know if you need anything.

I will always remember how Ian took care the lawn and garden when dad was sick. We didn't ask him, he just thought to do it. He knew how much dad loved his flowers and that it would bring him peace to see that they were tended while he was unwell, even if he couldn't do it himself. Ian took that on himself, we didn't ask him, nor would we as it was a lot of work. But it was one less thing for us to worry about. Thats the kind of man he was, a great neighbor and a great friend. Rest in peace may god keep you until we see you again.
