Hyacinth's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hyacinth “Jenny” Nelson, who peacefully departed this life on June 27, 2025.

Born on February 22, 1943, in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, Jenny was known to friends and family for her warmth, determination, and unwavering compassion. She began her career as a nurse at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, all while raising her family and pursuing higher education. Through her incredible dedication, she earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in Social Work from Jackson State University.

Jenny went on to serve the community as a social worker with Mississippi Alcohol and Drug Services, where she helped transform countless lives. Her kindness and empathy left a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As a gifted gardener, Jenny's home garden was often praised and featured multiple times in The Jackson Clarion-Ledger. Her garden, much like her life, was a reflection of her devotion, patience, and care, as she generously sowed this same love into everyone she came across.

Jenny is survived by her beloved children, Fred Jr. (Kimwana), Stacy (Toye), and Peta-Gay Simone. She also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jenny also leaves behind her sisters Shelia Hamilton and Madge Reynolds. She shared many decades with her loving life partner, attorney and former judge, Oran C. Paige.

A memorial service celebrating Jenny’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home, 1525 Beasley Rd., Jackson, MS. All who were touched by her kindness are warmly invited to join us in honoring her legacy.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the memory of Jenny’s nurturing spirit and the profound love she gave so freely. As we celebrate her eternal peace, may the flowers in her garden continue to bloom as a living tribute to her gracious soul.
